Vision and Strategy (Including Future Development)
Tamkang University’s College of Liberal Arts has been one of the earliest academic institutions in Taiwan to engage in the cultural and creative industries (CCI). Since 2006, the college has received substantial funding from the Ministry of Education’s Advisory Office for two consecutive years under the “Creative College Program.” This funding has supported the development and promotion of courses essential for cultivating talent in the CCI field, including creativity, industry-academia collaboration, and project management. In 2007, the college’s “Innovative Industry-Academia Flagship Course for Cultural and Creative Industries” project made it the first humanities college in Taiwan to receive funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Academic Technology Program Office.
In recent years, the college has actively collaborated with leading domestic cultural and creative enterprises and institutions, launching various industry-academia projects. In 2008, it represented Tamkang University in applying for and securing funding from the Ministry of Education’s “Specialized Talent Training Program,” fostering professional talent in five key CCI sectors:
- Digital Content
- Film & Entertainment
- Innovative Publishing
- Creative Sinology
- Cultural Tourism
Dual-Core Academic Advantage for CCI Development
The college’s unique academic structure integrates both social sciences and humanities & arts, forming a “dual-core” professional foundation that provides an ideal environment for cultural and creative industry development. This structure enhances vertical integration in cultural and creative industries, progressing from “Substance” (言之有物) and “Evidence” (言之有據) to “Creativity & Engagement” (言之有趣):
- Department of Chinese Literature (言之有物 | Substance): Curation and creative writing based on Chinese language and literary materials.
- Department of History (言之有據 | Evidence): Understanding historical evolution and conducting rigorous document analysis and research.
- Department of Information and Communication (言之有術 | Technique): Digital media innovation and technological development.
- Department of Information and Library Science (言之有序 | Organization): Knowledge management and digital archiving strategies for cultural resources.
- Department of Mass Communication (言之有趣 | Creativity & Engagement): Creative planning, media communication, and marketing design.
Vision and Strategic Focus
The college’s development vision and strategies focus on four major directions:
- Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI)

By leveraging the well-structured Cultural and Creative Industries Credit Program, integrating faculty expertise across departments, and utilizing extensive experience in industry-academia collaboration, the college aims to cultivate students into “creative storytellers” equipped with multifaceted capabilities, bridging substance, evidence, and creativity in cultural and creative industries.

The college bridges Western social sciences with Eastern humanities and historical philosophy, offering a dynamic platform where Eastern and Western civilizations interact and evolve.
By integrating local cultural consciousness with a global outlook, the college deepens Taiwan’s role in balancing localization, regionalization, internationalization, and globalization. This interdisciplinary and strategically positioned framework allows the college to explore cultural differentiation, similarities, competition, and collaboration, reinforcing its theoretical and cultural foundation in Taiwan and beyond.
